The original site of the Junee Co-op was transformed into the Junee Library when the supermarket moved across the tracks and left behind a wonderful space that was begging for a makeover.
Dunn + Hillam Architects were awarded the Premier’s Prize for Architecture 2010 for the Junee Library. The project also went on to win two Regional Master Builders awards for the builders Nash Bros Constructions. Visit their website for some wonderful architectural photos and commentary following the opening of the refurbished building.
Architecture AU offers an insight into the building and the town and is well worth the read. It explains the energy efficient heating and cooling system that was incorporated into the building during construction.
The Library hosts the Tourist Information Centre and is open daily so you can view this amazing building for yourself. Have a coffee and browse the newspapers and free book section, you’ll be made more than welcome by the lovely staff.
